How the Atlas figures are built.
The Atlas brings official statistics, market price records and environmental data together into one consistent, county-level view of Kenya's food systems. Every figure is checked, put into common units and dated before it is published.
What the Atlas covers
- Official statistics: production, trade, public spending, employment and the wider economy.
- Market prices: daily wholesale and retail prices, averaged by county and commodity.
- Growing conditions: rainfall, temperature, humidity, soils and seasonal rainfall outlooks.
- Natural systems and food security: land, vegetation and county food-security indicators.
How figures are prepared
- Figures are converted to common units and averaged to county level where the underlying records are more detailed.
- Market prices that fall far outside a commodity's normal range are excluded before any average or trend is calculated.
- Price changes are only compared within the same unit (per kg, per head, per bag).
- Modelled or satellite-based estimates are labelled as estimates, and AI-written summaries are labelled as modelled advisories.
- Every figure is shown with the date it refers to.
How often it updates
Market prices and growing conditions update daily. Seasonal outlooks update when a new forecast is issued. Official statistics are refreshed quarterly as new figures are published.
