Farmgate value methodology

Farmgate value is estimated by multiplying production volume (tonnes) by the average farm-gate price per tonne, as reconstructed in the SAFIC Knowledge Base. For commodities where farm-gate prices are not directly reported, SAFIC uses a margin-stripping methodology applied to retail or wholesale prices.

All values are in nominal Kenyan Shillings unless otherwise stated. Year refers to the crop year (tea, coffee) or fiscal year (livestock, horticulture) as appropriate to the commodity. Comparisons across years use consistent methodological vintages.
